Langley, BC --– Thunderbird Show Park gets the 2010 show jumping season underway this week with the Canadian Premier Tournament, followed directly by the British Columbia Open from June 2nd to 6th. The two tournaments will welcome predominantly USA and Canadian competitors looking to place in the June 5th $55,000 CSI2*-W BC Open World Cup Grand Prix thereby earning points in the FEI North American League West.
Hundreds of competitors will be on the grounds during the two tournaments, including Oregon’s Rich Fellers, Ireland’s Jennifer Crooks and California’s Ashlee Bond. With a 2nd place finish at the 2008 World Cup Finals in Goteborg, Sweden, Fellers is a favourite going into the tournament. Three back-to-back wins at Thunderbird in August of last year have ranked him high, but he’ll be riding alongside tough competitors like Canada’s Chris Pratt and Venezuela’s Pablo Barrios. Barrios arrives in Langley next week on the heels of a great showing at the Kentucky Spring Horse Show in Lexington two weeks ago.
The Rolex FEI World Cup™ Jumping series serves as a showcase for the best in individual FEI Jumping and international competition. The North American League was recently split into two main zones, west and east. Riders are no longer limited to their specific region, but can gain valuable world cup points in both zones. Thunderbird will host a second World Cup grand prix in August, marking the first time that the Park has hosted two stops on the tour.
“Thunderbird Show Park is becoming a world-class venue,” notes Rich Fellers, USA World Cup Rider and winner of the 2009 Rolex FEI World Cup Grand Prix at Thunderbird Show Park. “The addition of a second World Cup Qualifier validates the quality of the entire operation.”
Thunderbird Show Park draws thousands of national and international competitors annually to their seven weeklong tournaments. Home to one of the best grand prix fields in North America, Thunderbird delivers premier events in an inviting and inclusive setting. The full Park schedule is available at www.thunderbirdshowpark.com or find them on Facebook under Thunderbird Show Park and on Twitter @tbirdshowpark.
