Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center’s “Polo Experience” Auction Item Proves Huge Success

April 7, 2010

Loxahatchee, FL --– On Friday, April 2, 2010 polo fans had the opportunity to witness an exciting pre-game match at El Sur. Grand Prix Dressage rider & novelist Tami Hoag was the winning bidder for the one of a kind “Polo Experience” auction item at the recent Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center Benefit Auction. The item offered the winning bidder and three friends the opportunity to participate in a lesson and compete alongside two of the top polo players in the world: Nacho Figueras and Brandon Philips. Both riders currently play together for John Goodman on the Wanderers Isla Carroll polo team.

Hoag invited her dressage trainer Betsy Steiner, and friends Jolie Borelle and Johnny Robb to join her as teammates during the pre-game match, which lasted two chukkers. After the pre-game match, Hoag and her friends enjoyed an authentic Argentine Asado, and watched with a new perspective while the El Sur riders battled it out on the field during an arena polo match.

“Dressage versus Polo is one extreme to another," according to Betsy Steiner. “Like Opera versus Rock and Roll.” The "velvet hat ladies," as polo riders sometimes call them, gave the game their all swinging their mallets and rough-riding the ponies to a final tied score after two chukkers.

This exciting item was available at the VTRC Benefit Auction Dinner and Dance thanks to the generosity of EL Sur Polo. VTRC is a non-profit organization based in Loxahatchee, FL, that provides recreational and therapeutic riding instruction to people of all ages with varying developmental, physical, and psychological disabilities. The organization, founded in 1982, assists more than 350 adults and children every year, helping them gain a sense of accomplishment, greater independence, and a higher quality of life.
