July 13, 2009
Ottawa, ON --- The Canadian Eventing Committee has named Gin & Juice as Omega Alpha Canadian Event Horse of the Month for June.
Gin & Juice is co-owned by Canadian Olympian Hawley Bennett and American Linda Paine. The nine-year-old bay Thoroughbred mare won the CCI 3* division at the 23rd edition of the CCI Bromont Three Day Event, The Todd Sandler Challenge held in Bromont, QC, June 10–14, 2009.
Bennett of Langley, BC, and Gin & Juice were sitting in third place after dressage with a score of 51.9. The pair were clear with no time penalties on cross-country and moved into second place after the phase just 0.3 of a point behind the leader. A fault-free show jumping round secured the win for Bennett topping American Corrine Ashton and Dobbin who dropped one costly rail in show jumping to finish second. For her victory, Bennett was awarded the Todd Sandler Challenge Perpetual Trophy.
“Gin & Juice has been a work in progress, and our results at Bromont have shown us that our work has been worth it,” said Bennett. “Thank you to Omega Alpha for sponsoring this award that recognizes Canadian event horse owners.”
Canadian Eventing created the horse recognition program to celebrate the achievements of Canadian owned horses that represent Canada in North American competition. Canadian Eventing is also very pleased to have Omega Alpha Pharmaceuticals’ generous support of this new horse recognition program. Omega Alpha Pharmaceuticals will be providing each owner of the Horse of the Month with a generous gift certificate of $200 credit towards the purchase of Omega Alpha products of their choice.
