Quincy Hayes Wins Running Fox CET Medal Final at Royal Horse Show
December 22, 2008
Ottawa, ON --- Quincy Hayes of Aurora, ON, emerged the winner of the Running Fox CET Medal Final on Thursday, November 13, at the Royal Horse Show in Toronto, ON.
Riding Clarin, a nine-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding owned by Alex Rohling, Quincy won the CET Medal Final after a brilliant performance in the final phase which required the top four riders to complete a series of tests during a shortened course, including a trot fence, a tight roll-back turn, and a fence at a hand gallop.
“It has been an action-packed end to my season,” noted Hayes, 17, following the awards ceremony. “I have only been riding Clarin since August, and he has been fantastic. The CET Medal is an excellent class to assist in the development of younger riders moving up to the next level in show jumping.”
Designed to be a foundation for riders moving from the hunter divisions into jumper competition, the Running Fox CET Medal is a two-phase equitation class where the riders are judged on their position and riding style, as well as their ability to control the horse over a jumper course. The top 16 riders, qualified from four Regional Finals, were invited to contest the Running Fox CET Medal Final at the Royal Horse Show.
In the Flat/Gymnastic phase held Wednesday, November 12, riders were required to demonstrate lengthening of trot, lengthening of canter, and a series of canter lead changes prior to starting a demanding gymnastic course featuring bounces. Hayes placed fourth in this phase, and then returned to the Ricoh Coliseum the following day for the Jumping Phase where she again earned top spot.
As the winner, Hayes received a brand new Childeric saddle donated by long-time CET Medal Final sponsor, Running Fox.
Billie Derouet of Bromont, QC, was the Reserve Champion while Dana Henson of Vancouver, BC, finished third. Alysia Lynch of Stouffville, ON, placed fourth.
“Running Fox has been a consistent sponsor of the CET medal class for many years,” said Jennifer O’Neill, co-owner of Running Fox. “We feel that this is a wonderful class to help to develop the up-and-coming riders as they transition from equitation to the jumpers, as well as through the transition from being a top junior rider to a top amateur or professional. Many finalists and winners have gone on to be integral individuals in the sport both here in Canada as well as other countries. We thoroughly enjoy the dedication of the riders and the excitement that they show towards this class.”
