New Award Announces 2008 Scholarship Winners
October 28, 2008
Saskatoon, SK --- The winners of the 2008 Gryphon Junior Development Award were announced recently in Saskatoon. The award was created by Gryphon Reputation Management (Gryphon), a Saskatchewan-based research and public relations company, in partnership with Ebon Stables of Saskatoon, to assist junior riders with their equestrian development.
“Having been Pony Club parents for three years, we saw the dedication junior riders were putting into their riding every week,” said Roger and Leslie Francis, owners of Gryphon. “For a junior rider - under the age of 14 - this period of development basically builds a foundation of skills and an understanding of their equine partner that will last for years. We felt we could help reward that commitment by offering annual scholarships.”
Through discussion with Elaine Partington, owner of Ebon Stables and an Equine Canada Level III coach, the idea for an award program was born.
“In addition to putting in the time and miles, there are many opportunities to learn from experienced riders, trainers and educators at events held throughout Saskatchewan and Canada every year,” adds Elaine. “These events really pay big dividends to riders especially to a junior willing to learn.”
The Gryphon Junior Development Award will provide two awards – a Champion and a Reserve Champion - to the top placing juniors based on their best three performances during eligible events held at Ebon Stables during the show season. The Champion receives an award of $200 and the Reserve Champion receives an award of $100.
The award can be used to help pay for the cost of attending or registering for a seminar, training event or workshop within the following 12-month period. To be eligible the rider must be 14 years of age or younger as of January 1st of the current year and a resident of Saskatchewan. Riders must compete in a minimum of three events hosted at Ebon Stables during the show season with one of these three events being a dressage competition. A rider’s overall performance in flat, equitation, hunter and jumper disciplines will be determined by the total number of points earned and their dressage performance determined by their best or overall grade.
Winners of the 2008 Gryphon Junior Development Award are:
Champion: Megan Pilon of Saskatoon, SK
Reserve Champion: Nichelle Williams of Saskatoon, SK
