Deeridge Farm’s Phoebe Robinson and Red Dragon Win $20,000

Children’s Hunter Invitational Classic

April 2, 2008

Wellington, FL --- At this past week’s competition at the CN Winter Equestrian Festival, the elite Children’s Hunters riders were invited to compete in the $20,000 Children’s Hunter Invitational Classic. After two rounds, the winner was crowned, and first place went to Phoebe Robinson of Bronxville, NY, and her horse Red Dragon. Robinson rides at Deeridge Farm, which is based out of East Aurora, NY, and Wellington, FL.

Robinson and Red Dragon have been paired together since May of 2007. They won at the Capital Challenge Horse Show, but this was one their biggest wins together. They scored an 81 in the first round and sat in second place going into the second round, where they scored an 85 for the highest total of the day.

The 13-year-old said she “didn’t expect to win.” “It was so surprising,” she went on to say. The classic was the first time that she and Red Dragon had ever shown on the International Arena field. “I was really excited because we were able to go on the grand prix field,” Robinson said. “We don’t usually get a chance. The courses were really long because the ring is so big, but I liked them a lot.”

Robinson said she trusts Red Dragon one hundred per cent, so she did not worry about him spooking at anything in his first time in a new ring. “He’s probably one of my favorite horses that I’ve ever had to ride,” she commented. “He’s really good all around and really fun to ride.”

In addition to her big classic win, Robinson won ribbons during the weekend in the Children’s Hunter 14 & Under division on Red Dragon and Maxim.

Melissa Jacobs and her mount Jouet finished a fantastic third place in the classic, and she also picked up ribbons in the Children’s Hunters on Dakota.

Katie Jacobs-Robinson was successful this week, picking up third and sixth place ribbons in the Amateur-Owner Over 35 Hunters on her horse So You Say.

Deeridge Farm will compete next at the final week of the CN Winter Equestrian Festival on April 2-6.
