Green Light For Major Stampede Expansion Project

June 28, 2007

Calgary, AB --- The City of Calgary’s approval today of a development permit allows the Calgary Stampede to begin

construction on a $50-million expansion of the Roundup Centre on Stampede Park.

Construction on a new 50,000-square-foot exhibition hall will begin immediately after the 2007 Stampede.

“Roundup Centre expansion is a key step in our plan to transform Stampede Park into a year-round gathering place

and destination and ensures our city will continue to attract major international events such as the WorldSkills

Competition in 2009 and the Global Petroleum Show,” said Vern Kimball, chief executive officer, Calgary Stampede.

“These facilities are used by Calgarians for everything from trade shows and business meetings to fundraising events

and graduation ceremonies, and attract thousands of visitors to our city each year.”

The 375,000-square-foot Roundup Centre is the centerpiece of Stampede Park’s extensive collection of exhibition

facilities, which host more than 800,000 visitors at 600 events throughout the year.

Further expansion plans include

construction of a second level and another exhibition hall.

The $50-million project is fully funded by capital grants previously announced by the Government of Alberta.

“We are grateful for the continued leadership from both the Government of Alberta and the City of Calgary in

recognizing the enormous economic and cultural contribution of the Calgary Stampede to the community,” said

Kimball.

Once completed in 2009, the expanded Roundup Centre will connect to the relocated Calgary Stampede Casino, set to

open in June 2008, and to a planned hotel, expected to be built by a private developer. This trade and entertainment

complex will be connected by a Plus 15 walkway to the Victoria Park/Stampede LRT Station.

Other Stampede development projects planned over the next five years include a riverfront park, youth campus, retail

mainstreet, and new agriculture facility.
