Saskatoon, Saskatchewan --- The Summer 2007 issue of Horse Health
Lines, news publication for the Western College of Veterinary Medicine’s Equine Health
Research Fund, is now online at http://www.ehrf.usask.ca (click on “Horse Health
Lines”).
Highlights from this issue of Horse Health Lines include:
• an update about WCVM's new fund raising incentive that could potentially earn an
additional $1 million for equine health research at WCVM during the next five years.
• summaries of three major horse health research projects at WCVM that have received
funding from the Heather Ryan and L. David Dubé Veterinary Health and Research
Fund.
• summaries of eight new horse health research projects that earned financial support
from the Equine Health Research Fund for 2007-08.
• a profile of Dr. Fernando J. Marqués, a veterinary internal medicine specialist at the
Western College of Veterinary Medicine whose background includes an exciting career
in Argentina's show jumping ring.
• vital horse health management information about the failure of passive transfer in foals.
• a research report on whether the use of equine follicle stimulating hormone (eFSH) can
improve the success of embryo transfer in equine reproduction.
• a profile of a horse owner in British Columbia whose unique plans for donating to the
Equine Health Research Fund combine two of her life's greatest passions: books and
horses.
Published twice a year, Horse Health Lines includes research updates, donor profiles,
horse health management articles and other news related to the veterinary college’s
Equine Health Research Fund. With the support of Western Canada’s horse industry, the
fund annually invests in equine health research grants, equine fellowships and a summer
research program for undergraduate veterinary students at WCVM.
WCVM is a Canadian centre for veterinary education, expertise and research that’s
located on the University of Saskatchewan campus in Saskatoon, Sask. Nearly 400
undergraduate and graduate students are enrolled at the college that annually attracts
more than $5 million in veterinary research funding from public and private sources.
