Haylie Jayne Scores Victory in $2,500 Junior/Amateur-Owner Hunter Classic at Wachovia Showplace Spring Spectacular
June 23, 2007
Wayne, IL --- Intermittent rain showers and sloppy footing marked the fourth day of competition at the Wachovia Showplace Spring Spectacular II, but that didn't stop the hunters from contesting their championships and a classic.
Elgin, IL, native Haylie Jayne was victorious in the hunter ring, taking home the $2,500 Junior/Amateur Owner Hunter Classic, which was sponsored by the Ianello Family. She rode the 13-year-old thoroughbred veteran Caped Crusader, owned by Alex Jayne, to the win with scores of 88 and 92.
(Caped Crusader) had all winter off, and he came back about a month ago to do two shows, Jayne explained. He was really good today. He was so on his game and feels great after his break. He gained a ton of weight: He's just in a really happy place now.
Jayne has ridden at the Lamplight Equestrian Center for years and has been witness to the vast changes and improvements that the facility has undergone in recent years.
They've done an amazing job with the facility, with the landscaping and everything it just looks beautiful now. The show is run so wonderfully, and the sponsors are amazing. It really has come a long way, she described.
Catie Hope dominated in both the Small Junior 15 & Under and Large Junior 15 & Under hunter divisions, riding Castille and Majic, respectively. Hope, age 15, has only been partnered with Castille for a few short weeks, but it hasn't stopped them from earning the division championship last week as well. Gray Fadden owns the bay gelding.
I just got him a week or two before the first Lamplight show, Hope explained. He's from Don Stewart, and he's a lot of fun. He has a good rhythm, so it's easy to find the jumps, and he's really smooth. Today, I liked my third trip the second classic round the most. I found the jumps well, he jumped well and was good.
The pair took three first place ribbons over fences, a second place over fences and a third in the under saddle for the championship. Of Hope's success, trainer Diane Carney noted that she is consistent and has excellent timing, in addition having a passion for the sport. Victoria Efird and her own Cooper were reserve champions in the Small Junior 15 & Under division.
In the Large Junior 16-17 Hunter division, Katherine Newman of Wellington, FL, was successful in bringing home the tricolor aboard Nairobi for the second week in a row. Newman has been catch riding Nairobi for Nora and Morgan Thomas and owner Kimberly Wang. Kristin VanDer Veen was reserve champion in the Large Junior 16-17 division with Oxford.
Cathy Rolfs made another visit to the winner's circle today, earning championship honors in the Small Junior 16-17 Hunter division, partnered with Parcival. The pair won a $1,500 Junior Hunter Classic yesterday. In addition, they were presented with the Overall High Point Junior Hunter trophy for weeks I and II, which was sponsored by the Hope family.
In the $2,500 NAL Children's Hunter Classic, sponsored by Roy and Paula May for the Scleroderma Foundation, Chandler Snowden jumped to victory on Eternity, owned by Deborah Sturges. The $2,500 Marshall & Sterling Adult Hunter Classic, sponsored by Lisa Cudahy, was won by Sheridan Griffin riding Rebound.
