Canadian Kim Farlinger Victorious In Spruce Meadows

June 19, 2007

Calgary, Alberta --- Canadian show jumping athlete, Kim Farlinger, completed the first half of the summer tournaments in Spruce Meadows held June 6 to 17 with success, as she went to the winners circle twice in both the Scotia Bank Cup and the Akita Drilling Cup.

Having first had international success aboard her great mount del Destino, Farlinger has been bringing along her next tier of show jumpers and is hitting the ground running.

Bay Street, an eight year old Hanoverian gelding was victorious in the Akita Drilling Cup out of more than twenty horse/rider combinations, but it was stable mate Cordoba, a nine year old Dutch warmblood who was not to be outshone. With 58 horses in the first round of the Scotia Bank Cup, and 17 returning for the speed phase, it was a nail biting jump off. Farlinger executed a lightning fast round, edging out Olympians, Beezie Madden, Chris Kappler and Richard Spooner for the win.

“I saw how fast the jump off was getting and I knew the only place to win, would be if I could turn back on the double faster,” commented Farlinger. “It was a great class with great riders and a high level of competition which made for truly great sport.”

Farlinger’s victory was made particularly gratifying as she has brought Cordoba along since he was a six year old. Imported from Paul and Emile Hendrix in Holland, Farlinger knew from the first time she rode him he was something special. “He wasn’t the easiest young horse, but I knew if I could get him on my side, he was a winner. He’s extremely talented… in an eccentric sort of fashion…” laughed Farlinger.
