June 8, 2007
Spruce Meadows, Calgary, AB --- Family Fun Night served up hot dogs, perfect weather and a victory gallop from fan favourite Beezie Madden (USA). Madden and her gelding Integrity won the ATCO Midstream Challenge Cup in the Spruce Meadows International Ring.
Only a horse’s hair separated first and second place in the event, with Beezie Madden beating Canadian Eric Lamaze by two tenths of a second. Earning her first win of the Spruce Meadows “National” Tournament, Madden managed to keep fans at the edge of their seats. Madden who has come close all week said after her win, “It feels great, really good to win. It’s a good momentum boost into the weekend.”
Friday night at Spruce Meadows was capped off with the RBC Capital Markets Cup. For Puerto Rico’s Francis Roig and his gelding Acertijo the night couldn’t have been better. The 22 year old won his first ever major event in the Spruce Meadows International Ring. Roig commented after his win, “It’s so exciting to win. I thought I would ride clean but not win. I didn’t think I was that fast. It’s really exciting.”
Mexico’s Jorge Vesrwyvel was the only other rider to clear and finished in second place on Adventure L.S.
