Survivor Speaks Out About Tough Enough to Wear Pink
June 6, 2007
Calgary, Alberta --- Brian Crookes is one of those breast cancer survivors. “Breast cancer has obviously changed my life forever, but it has also had an enormous impact on my family and my friends,” said Crookes.
Crookes was on hand today as the Calgary Stampede and Wrangler proudly joined the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) – Prairies/NWT chapter for the official product launch of the Tough Enough to Wear Pink campaign, leading up to 30-Hours of Tough that opens the Stampede on Thursday, July 5.
“The Calgary Stampede is proud to join the fight to defeat breast cancer by raising money and awareness through our 30-Hours of Tough campaign and we hope all Canadians will become involved,” said George Brookman, president and chairman of the board of the Calgary Stampede. “We want to honour the determination of survivors such as Brian and recognize the tens of thousands of volunteers across Canada involved in working towards creating a future without breast cancer.”
Tough Enough to Wear Pink is a Wrangler initiative that recognizes the courageous individuals who face breast cancer every day. “We want to provide our complete support to everyone who is or has been impacted by breast cancer,” said Karl Stressman, Wrangler director of special events and licensing, whose wife is a two-time survivor of the disease.
Merchandise for Tough Enough to Wear Pink officially went on sale today at Lammle’s Western Wear & Tack and at the Stampede Store at Stampede Park. Net proceeds from the sale of the merchandise will go to the CBCF – Prairies/NWT chapter’s fundraising campaign. Along with the merchandise, a specially wrapped Tough Enough to Wear Pink GMC ¾ ton Sierra truck was unveiled. The truck will be seen throughout Calgary at various Stampede and CBCF – Prairie/NWT chapter fundraising events.
The 2007 Calgary Stampede opens with 30-Hours of Tough on Thursday, July 5 at 4 p.m., with a $3 park admission to Sneak-a-Peek, where 100 per cent of paid admission will go to the campaign. The fundraising event concludes with a cheque presentation on July 6 at 10 p.m. during the Evening Show.
