Beacon Hill Students Gear Up for George Morris Horsemanship Training

Wellington, FL --- Maria Schaub and Sloane Coles, who train with Frank and Stacia Madden at Beacon Hill Show Stables in Colts Neck, NJ, have been invited to participate in the George Morris Horsemanship Training Session. The session, hosted by the United States Equestrian Federation, Bates Saddles and Stadium Jumping Inc., will be held from January 15-20 at the Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Club in Wellington, FL. Schaub and Coles qualified for the clinic after their successful 2006 show season and high placements on the 2006 Bates USA Equitation Ranking.

In 2006, Coles was also presented with the honor of the 2006 Bates USA Equitation year-end rider award, and Schaub was honored with the bronze. Both riders have earned impressive ribbons at such prestigious competitions as the Washington International Horse Show Equitation Finals, the USEF Medal Finals, the USEF Show Jumping Talent Search Finals, and the ASPCA National Championship Finals. They are also strong competitors at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL, and have earned numerous championships.

“I feel so privileged to participate in something like this,” reported Schaub, who resides in Holmdel, NJ. “I’ve never seen something like this, where the top professionals are in the same place at the same time and not at a show, but there to help you and teach you and be mentors. I am honored to be able to get feedback from the top riders and trainers in the world.”

The goal of the George Morris Horsemanship Training Session is to strengthen horsemanship skills in young riders who display potential for future success in U.S. team competitions.

Under the tutelage of legendary horseman George Morris, eight of the top young riders in the country will learn flatwork, gymnastics and coursework during lessons, and they will also learn proper horse care, grooming skills and barn management, as well as the correct way to longe and prepare horses for the show ring.

During the session, riders will meet with renowned course designer Steve Stephens to learn the basic principles of course designing and Dr. Dan Marx to evaluate conformation. USET Show Jumping team veterinarian Dr. Tim Ober will host a veterinary session, and barn manager Laurie Pitts will instruct and oversee riders as they complete morning and evening chores and night checks.
