Wellington, FL --- Cocktails and smiles were served by equestrians to make money for the Equestrian AID Foundation on Thursday, January 4, 2007, at the Players Club in Wellington, FL. Sidelines Equestrian Triathlon™ volunteers organized the celebrity bartending event and Neil Hirsch, owner of the Players Club, generously provided the facility. All of the tips made from mixing margaritas and pouring beer went directly to the Equestrian AID Foundation.

In light of the recent outbreak of the Equine Herpes Virus (EHV-1), organizers of this year’s Sidelines Equestrian Triathlon™ postponed the event originally scheduled for January 6, 2007. The celebrity bartending event brought volunteers and athletes together and symbolized the first social event for local equestrians since the outbreak. “It was nice to see everyone comingling after being so segregated from the EHV quarantine,” said celebrity bartender, Michelle Grubb.

Few charities have as loyal a following as the Equestrian Aid Foundation, which raises money for equestrians in need. The Equestrian Aid Foundation helps equestrians with a life threatening illness or victims of a catastrophic event or accident.

Many athletes that will be competing in this year’s Sidelines Equestrian Triathlon™ arrived to bartend dressed in brightly colored Polo Gear jerseys, donated by Gary Fellers and Janette Sassoon of Polo Gear.

Olympic medalist and president of the Equestrian Aid Foundation, Robert Dover, was in attendance as were fellow Olympians, Nona Garson, Laura Kraut and Norman Dello Joio. Equestrians Karin Offield, Robert Ross, Jennifer LeRoy, Gigi Stetler, Michelle Grubb, Susan Dutta, Megan Johnstone, Schuyler Riley, Bruce Duchossois, Tracey Topping, Jeannie Dello Joio and Christian Currey came out to show their support.

Samantha Charles, editor of Sidelines magazine, and Marlene Ashdown Simmons of Organize This, along with dozens of volunteers, made plans for the upcoming Equestrian Triathlon (re-scheduled for sometime in March of 2007). Volunteers Tracy Raflowitz, Brett Raflowitz, Danny Simmons, Stacy MacLeod, Kiki Umla, Patricia Tucker and Debbie Perdomo worked donation stations at the celebrity bartending event and recruited new blood to join in.

Guests visited company around indoor and outdoor bars on a warm evening and kindly tipped their favorite bartenders. Jane Clark, Susan Bloomberg, Jimmy Doyle, Ron Neal, Mason Phelps Jr., Tony Coppolla, Ronnie Beard, Aaron Menitoff and Micheal Angelo were only a few of the large group of patrons that gathered at the Players Club.

A tall, slender mystery woman was a favorite indoor bartender, dressed in a black wig and dark glasses. She shook and stirred with a big smile while tips poured into her jar on the bar. Laura Kraut, Nona Garson and Gigi Stetler were the first to man the bar outside. Garson took instruction from Kraut, who read from the book Bartending for Dummies, from the side.

“The Equestrian Aid Foundation is a great cause, and I always like to be involved with the triathlon,” Kraut said with a smile. “The Sidelines Equestrian Triathlon™ is a fun way for equestrians to get together each year and enjoy each other’s company while also raising important donations.”

Information regarding the new date for the Sidelines Equestrian Triathlon™ will be available online in the next few days at www.sidelinesnews.com or call 1-800-792-6068.
