First Canadian Cowboy in California Rodeo Hall of Fame

Saramento, CA --- The late rodeo pioneer, Earl W. Bascom, was inducted recently into the California Rodeo Hall of Fame at ceremonies during Cattlemen's Day at the California State Fair in Sacramento.

Born in Vernal,Utah in 1906 and raised in Alberta, Canada, Earl Bascom moved to California near the end of his rodeo career. After

graduating from Brigham Young University in 1940, Earl Bascom, with his wife, Nadine who was from Columbia, Mississippi, moved to California and continued rodeoing, winning the saddle bronc and bareback riding championships at the Raymond Stampede in Alberta that very same year.

During the hall of fame ceremonies,Earl Bascom was honored not only for his rodeo career but for his rodeo equipment inventions, including the hornless rodeo saddle and the one-hand bareback rigging, both of which brought him international acclaim.

After retiring from rodeo, Earl Bascom became an internationally-known cowboy artist and sculptor, recording his cowboy and rodeo experiences into bronze sculptures and other forms of fine art.

At the induction, Nadine Bascom received a special Hall of Fame silver buckle on behalf of her late husband.
