Young Talent Featured at CDI3* Ottawa Summer Dressage Classic

Ottawa, Ontario --- The CDI3* Ottawa Summer Dressage Classic, held June 22-25 at the Nepean National Equestrian Park in Ottawa, ON showcased talented ‘up and comers’, both human and equine.

In the FEI Young Horse Six-Year-Old Preliminary, Mariane Nielsen’s Oldenburg stallion Romance Tyme charmed the judges, receiving a score of 75.600% to win the class with transplanted Scotsman (who currently lives in St. Adele, QC) Neil McIntosh aboard. Finishing second was Lee Tubman of Smithville, ON who scored 73% with the Dutch Warmblood gelding Tygo B, owned by Sunrise Greenhouses Ltd. Third place was earned by Canadian Equestrian Team Short List “B” competitor Tom Dvorak, riding Karen Thompson-Harry’s Westphalian gelding Corrigan.

In the Six-Year-Old Finale, Tubman took over the lead, riding Tygo B to a score of 73.200%. Next in line was Dvorak and Corrigan with a score of 66.600%. McIntosh and Romance Tyme finished third, scoring 66.200%.

Dvorak secured the red ribbon in the FEI Young Horse Five-Year-Old Preliminary, this time with renowned Canadian breeder Augustin Walch’s Hanoverian stallion Viva’s Salieri after scoring 76.200%. Caroline Pepin of St-Hilaire, QC was the runner up, riding her Oldenburg gelding HG San Classic to a score of 75.200%. Local rider Susan Ziereisen of Carp, ON rounded out the top three, scoring 73% aboard her Canadian Warmblood gelding Lawrence.

Dvorak and Viva’s Salieri’s winning streak continued in the finale, when they bettered their earlier score, receiving 78.400%. Tubman secured second with a score of 76.400% with the Hanoverian mare De La Rosa, owned by Ducat Developments Ltd. McIntosh placed third, scoring 75.400% with Canadian Olympian Evi Strasser’s Oldenburg stallion Destiny Tyme.

The Young Rider classes featured a wide range of young talent as well. In the Team class, Tara Dougans of Vancouver, BC took top honours when she scored 64.089% with Louise Tomik’s 15-year-old Dutch Warmblood stallion Jacardo. Dougans also secured third place with her 11-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding Nashua. Local rider, Briannon Johnson of Orleans, ON, scored 63.822 with her 19-year-old veteran Hanoverian gelding La Valse.

In the Young Rider Individual Johnson and La Valse came out on top with a score of 64.100%. Amanda Kalvoda of Uxbridge, ON earned second, scoring 63.650% aboard her nine-year-old Oldenburg mare Dance. Dougans rode Jacardo to a third place finish, scoring 61.850%.

Johnson and La Valse repeated their win in the Freestyle, dancing to a score of 66.350%. Cecile Von Martels of Ridgetown, ON earned second when her performance with her10-year-old Westphalian gelding, Downtown received a score of 66.050%. Catherine Goulet of Saint-Marc-Sur-Richelieu, QC rode her 15-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding Orgon to a third place finish, earning 63.900%.

Jessica Rhinelander of St. John’s, NF dominated the FEI Junior division, winning the Team, Individual and Freestyle classes aboard Leah Wilson’s 12-year-old gelding Dostoevsky. Vivian Cornell of Kingston, ON claimed the FEI Chidlren’s competition, riding Kathy Cornell’s 15-year-old Trakehner mare Heidschnucke.
