Rodrigo Pessoa and Baloubet du Rouet Soar to the Top of the American Grand Prix Association (AGA) Charts

Wellington, FL --- Brazilian show jumping superstar Rodrigo Pessoa, with a win in the $200,000 Budweiser American Invitational CSI 4*, and a third place finish at the $150,000 Grand Prix of Charlotte, CSI 4*, has taken over the lead in the race for the 2006 American Grand Prix Association (AGA) Rider of the Year title. Pessoa’s mount, the veteran Baloubet du Rouet, with $83,865 in money won has grabbed the lead in the 2006 AGA Horse of the Year battle.

Entering its twenty-eighth year, the AGA Grand Prix Series of Show Jumping is the world’s richest and longest running series of equestrian show jumping events. The AGA series offers over $3 million dollars in prize money on a tour that encompasses thirty events and twenty different equestrian markets across the United States.

Pessoa, competing for the first time at the Winter Equestrian Festival and at Charlotte, racked up eighty-seven points and three clear rounds during his stint in the United States. Laura Kraut, with eighty-four points and six clear rounds, sits in second place. Norman Dello Joio is third, just two points behind Kraut.

Baloubet du Rouet bankrolled $60,000 for the win at the Invitational and then picked up another $19,500 check at Charlotte. His total of $83,865 gives him a cushion of $8,385 over Glasgow who sits second with $77,300. 2005 AGA Horse of the Year Madison is in third place with $68,930 in money won.

The American Grand Prix Association tour resumes on May 6th in both the East and West. On the West Coast, the AGA heats up with the $100,000 HBO Grand Prix of Del Mar at the Del Mar Fairgrounds Arena in Del Mar, CA on May 6, 2006. Also on May 6th, riders in the East will compete at the $50,000 Mary Rena Murphy Grand Prix at the Kentucky Spring Horse Show at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY.
