Free Farmtastic Fun Weekend Adds New Equine Programming in 2005
November 4, 2005
Edmonton, AB --- After a tremendous leap in attendance in 2004, Northlands Park has added new programming to its Farmtastic Fun Weekend to help the public enjoy more of the lighter side of farming. Farmtastic Fun Weekend November 5 and 6, is the opening weekend of Farmfair International. The continued focus on small livestock, hobby farm enthusiasts, equine and stock dog competitions is now augmented by a new Farmtastic Farmers Market, and some new horse events that spill over onto Monday and Tuesday.
Farmtastic Fun Weekend is a free event that has something for the whole family. An all-new Farmers Market fills the central mall area of the AgriCom on the weekend, offering farm-fresh products long after other farmers markets have closed for the season. Teams of horse riders fight the clock to sort and pen cattle, mighty draft horses pull their weight, clever stock dogs work a herd of sheep, and talented local singers compete to win at Country Vocal Spotlight. Enjoy extras such as hayrides, face painting, roaming performers, and pony rides. From the alpaca fashion show, to a goat obstacle course, to pigs and sheep in their best Halloween costumes - Farmtastic Fun Weekend is an entertaining take on the farm lifestyle.
“This is a great chance for city families to enjoy the fun side of farming for free. From morning until night, there’s something going on all weekend,” says Leah Jones, agricultural director for Northlands Park. “And this year, we just can’t contain it on the weekend. Monday and Tuesday, we’re offering a glimpse of what really goes on a at the ranch with new events that include Working Cow Horse and Super Team competitions during the day, plus the first-ever Heritage Invitational Ranch Rodeo at night as part of our Centennial celebrations.”
Farmtastic Fun Weekend runs from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the AgriCom and Sportex at Northlands Park on November 5 and 6. New equine events run 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. on November 7 and 8.
