Canadian Junior And Young Riders to Compete at Mexico CDI Invitational

November 3, 2005

Mexico City, Mexico --- Some of Canada’s top young riders will be gaining valuable international experience when they compete at the Mexico CDIJ/CDIY Invitational being held in Mexico City, November 10-12, 2005.

The invitational is similar to the Sydney Australia CDI Invitational, where riders compete on borrowed horses.

"This is such an exciting opportunity for Canada's young riders.,” says Liz Steacie, Chair of Dressage Canada’s Domestic Development Committee. “ I think it will be a terrific learning experience for everyone who goes, and I think the young people will have a great time. It is such an advantage for our riders to have this kind of experience. It will make them stronger and more seasoned competitors, and that can only be good for the future. All the riders who have been selected to represent Canada at this competition have had outstanding results already; this trip will hopefully build on their strengths."

The riders selected to represent Canada include:

Jade Deter, Ontario – FEI Pony/Children division

Alexandra Duncan, British Columbia – FEI Junior division

Brittany Fraser, Nova Scotia - FEI Junior Division

Erika Urff, British Columbia – FEI Junior Division

Jessica Rhinelander, Newfoundland - FEI Junior Division

Pia Fortmuller, British Columbia – FEI Young Riders division

The international judging panel includes Mariette Withages (FEI O – BEL), Axel Steiner (FEI O – USA), Cara Whitham (FEI O – Canada), Mercedes Campderá (FEI C - MEX) and Gabriel Armando (FEI C - ARG).
